Commense Clothing Review: Is The Luxury-Like Brand Worth The Hype?

Categories Style

With a constant spamming of Instagram and Facebook ads featuring fabulous women in their luxury-like pieces, it was inevitable that I would be influenced into today’s topic of conversation. I mean who can resist a dress that gives runway chic with boutique pricing?

Now I promised myself that I wouldn’t jump the gun on this review because I really wanted to sit with all things Commense. The shopping process. The shipping time. How the clothes held up after a few wears and washes. You know the stuff you really want to know before you decide to part with your digital dollars. And we’ve got quite a bit to cover. So grab your mocktail or bevy of choices, and settle in my friends. We’ve got high standards in these parts – let’s see if Commense can keep up.

What is the vibe of Commense?

If we’re being brutally honest, and we always are, Commense sits somewhere between luxury and Shein for me. Here’s why.

There was a documentary that came out a few years ago for a fast fashion brand that really gave an in-depth look at why fast fashion has earned the fast part of their title. Where the inspo comes from. The turnaround. How they design their pieces. Ect.

This isn’t that. You’re likely to see more mid/low range prices for the chicer pieces that have come off the runway. Think the the more timeless pieces your favorite celebs or influencers are wearing but with a price tag that doesn’t also look like a car payment.

The prices aren’t so “cheap” that you’re likely buying an entire new wardrobe for every weekend or holiday. But they do bring some of those luxury-like pieces into a more everyday price range. But more on this in a moment.

Who is commense similiar to?

I think if you took the best of Petal & Pup, Banana Republic and maybe Asos, you would get Commense. There’s not much that I don’t find visually beautiful on their website.

How accurate is the sizing?

It’s pretty consistent across the board. But it very much lacks the inclusivity scale. Their largest size is an XL which is the equivalent of a US 12. And everything I purchased fit it just wasn’t always the right style for my body. For reference, at the time of writing this post I’m a 12/14 depending on where we’re shopping.

What is the ship time like?

Long. So what you don’t see in the luxury/sustainable marketing side of things that is that Commense Clothing comes from China. With my first order, there were several items on pre-order but even after the date nothing had shipped. I reached out to customer service and they were lovely. But it’s a minimum of 2 weeks between ordering and having the product in my hands in Florida.

How is the quality of Commense products?

Better than you’d expect from someone like Shein – although to be fair I’ve had some long-lasting winners. Unfortunately, it can definitely be hard to tell exactly what you’re getting based on the website photos.

I haven’t gotten any pieces yet where I immediately felt like I would never wear it because it was see-through or just terrible quality. In fact, a few of my dresses were thicker than I’d expected.

Is it large chest/curve friendly?

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the options. As a smaller chest girlie, I’ve definitely noticed room in the top where I will be altering pieces to make them more custom. Curve girl-wise – I haven’t tested pants/shorts but the dresses have all worked for me. Keeping in mind that I know the styles that just won’t work so I avoid those naturally.

WHAT IS THE RETURN POLICY FOR COMMENSE CLOTHING?

This was probably the most shocking for me because I wasn’t expecting the response I got when I reached out about returning pieces from my first order. I was offered 3 options: return the pieces minus the shipping, return the pieces but get partial credit to shop, or keep the pieces and get the full amount as credit to shop in the store.

Who Will Love Commense Clothing?

If you love the luxury fits on your favorite influencers or want more high-end-looking vibes, this is for you. From work wear to date night to casual fits, they have it all covered.

IS IT REALLY SUSTAINABLE?

I think when we see the term sustainable in fashion these days it’s best to do a bit more digging. Sustainable looks different with different brands. And there’s an element of sustainability that EVERY business should seek to do regardless of it they are making products with recycled materials.

Commense is giving sustainable in the way of seeking to be almost carbon zero. Meaning they are offsetting their carbon footprint with packaging choices, pre-orders and potentially other things.

IS COMMENSE AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE?

If you can’t be bothered to wait or just love shopping second hand, you can find Commense via ThredUp or Poshmark.

IS IT WORTH IT?

Overall, I’m quite happy with my Commense purchases. I do wish that they would be better about showing all the angles for outfits as well as other body types. And of course, there is room to do better with sizing because a US 12 should never be the largest size.

Do I think I’d order again? Possibly. There are quite a few pieces that I’ve seen via Commense that even on other boutiques retail for $20-$30 more. And I’ve found several timeless pieces like the white set, my white linen dress, and a black dress I’ve yet to style. It definitely feels worth it to me to eat the shipping cost for returns or buy other pieces with the credit if the first round doesn’t work.

I will say I’ve also sold some of the ones that I just didn’t think I could tailor on Poshmark which is great.

How Does Commense Clothing Hold Up Over Time?

While this post may seem new, this is actually me writing at a 2-year update of owning & wearing Commense. Additionally, I’ve just placed a new order so we know something’s going right. As long as you’re caring for your clothes (mindfully washing, hanging them to dry when necessary, using a good quality detergent), you shouldn’t have any issues. Mine have been washed and worn countless times, still holding the same quality as when I originally bought them.

1 Year Update

It’s been over a year since I got my first order from Commense. And the pieces in my collection can be described as ranging from everyday wear to special occasions. So I thought it might be time to update you on what held up after it was worn, washed, and styled time after time.

Of everything I’ve purchased, I think I reach for the white linen dress and the white set the most. They are just the easiest and dreamiest summer pieces. And the quality has stayed with both over time.

I did (accidentally) rip a hole in the bottom of the white linen dress by stepping on it. Actually right after the photos were shot. But it’s an easy repair and well worth it.

There is one more piece I’ve added to today’s post because I wasn’t quite sure if it would be worth my time when I first bought it. The blue backless dress gives me all the Monet vibes but she has to be styled just right. More to come on her soon so make sure you come back to the blog.

2 Year Update

As of today, the date you’ll see stamped at the top of this post, consider everything up to date with 2 years of wear & test time. The shipping times have gotten better. Though I find tracking once it hits the states to be hit & miss. But the quality has held up. I’ve recently added more pieces for my summer wardrobe (you’ll find that try on in this week’s vlog).

All in all, I would still recommend Commense.
