Read All About – Reviewing the Oh She Glows Cookbook

Categories Food

When Angela’s cookbook came out, I couldn’t be more excited! For months I’d been making her overnight vegan oats and black bean & butternut squash burritos. Needless to say, her cookbook has been a great tool to add into my kitchen arsenal.

A full plant based cookbook, The Oh She Glows Cookbook shares the journey Angela has been on to overcome an eating disorder and find a lifestyle that both works for her and keeps her healthy. With a wide range of plant-based recipes, this cookbook offers someone for everyone, even the carnivore. I still have so many recipes to make but here are a few of my favorites.

Effortless Vegan Overnight Oats – I love to make this recipe along with her chai jam for morning parfaits. Full of omegas with the chia seeds, this recipe is far from your grandmother’s oatmeal.

Lightened Up Crispy Baked Fries – I love potatoes. I’ll admit it. It’s the love affair of a lifetime. But my goodness, I find it difficult to make baked fries that quite satisfy my need for savory & crispy. They often turn out to be just sad, soft potatoes that went on a baking sheet. With this recipe, I’ve finally been able to make progress! Angela coats hers with arrowroot powder as part of the process before baking. I know you’ll love this recipe as much as I do.

Creamy Vanilla Almond Milk** – Now, while I enjoy my plant-based lifestyle, I’m the first to admit that I’ll buy things to save myself the time. Typically, they all fall in the almond family: almond milk, almond butter, almond meal and so on. But thanks to her how to, I really have no excuses other than my own laziness. Stay tuned for a video coming to the blog soon on how to make your own!

Classic Green Monster – Growing up, all my ideas of smoothies contained strawberries & bananas. Anything after that was probably something I wasn’t too interested in. The classic green monster smoothie was one of the first that moved me towards a life of vegetables in my smoothies, who knew?! Now, if you aren’t a banana person, this may not be your jam but it’s definitely a great smoothie to get lots of nutrients in at the top of the day.

Grilled Portobello Burger w/ Sun Dried Tomato Kale-Hemp Pesto – The title this recipe alone sounds impressive. Try as I might, I don’t always get all the veggies I need. Amazing right? But this Portobello burger makes it so much easier. A quick recipe to make on even the craziest nights, you can do most of the prep the night before & throw it all together when you get home.

Overall, the Oh She Glows Cookbook wins the approval of my stomach and everything else that matters but mostly my stomach. It’s super easy to follow, has recipes that will work for everyone and is very encouraging to those who are looking to add more veggies into their diets or want to be plant based. Do yourself a favor an order it today.

S&S Grade: A+

** Note: if you don’t drink or use your almond milk regularly, while I love the homemade version, you may find it goes bad quicker than you would prefer. The homemade version carries a much shorter shelf life than the store bought.
