Shake It Up Pt. 1 – Protein

Categories Food

Busy is a state of life we all know. But being busy isn’t an excuse for being unhealthy. Breakfast is this place to set the foundation for your day. Making healthy choices in the morning will help you make healthy meal choices throughout the day. One of my favorite ways to set myself up for a great day is with a protein shake.

There are lots of great proteins out there but some times you have to try a few before you find the one that you like best. It’s important to choose a protein that will help your body and add nutrients rather than something cheap that doesn’t aid in what your body needs.

Personally, I avoid proteins with whey and soy. Whey is a milk derivative and doesn’t bode well for my body. While, soy is a protein but is often an ingredient people are sensitive too or eating too much of. When I went vegan, I noticed by consumption of soy increased way more than I noticed and was effected my hormones. It doesn’t happen to everyone, but it’s something to be aware of.

Here are a few of my favorite proteins to check out:

Vega One All In One Nutritional Shake (this one provides lots of protein and daily essential vitamins & minerals; the vanilla or vanilla chai is my fave)

Arbonne’s Protein (both the vanilla and chocolate are great)

Sunwarrior  (I haven’t tried this particular flavor yet, but they also have a great product)

Now, while I know that buying a big tub of a protein you’ve never tried before is a big commitment, there are ways to test the waters first. If you are lucky enough to live near a whole foods, you can often find individual packs of protein to test out. I’d recommend getting a few of the flavors you want to try and testing them in different recipes. Not every recipe is meant to have vanilla or chocolate. You may have to decide which you prefer and tweak it.

Do you have a favorite protein or go to recipe? If so, I’d love to hear about it!
