What’s In My Makeup Bag: The Spring Edit

Categories Beauty

I’ll admit I’m a bit of a seasonal make up gal. Depending on the weather, who’s Youtube videos I’m regularly watching and my own personal goals, my go to make up look changes. I go through phases of lip colors. There’s always a red in the mix. I change up my foundation coverage. Sometimes I want a lighter, glowy look for my face. And because of all of this, my makeup bag staples swap from season to season.

I mentioned in my March favorites that recently I’ve been a bit busier. I’ve got more travel coming up and even more friends popping in town. So at least once a week, I’m raiding my make up stash and putting together my on the go bag. But today before I put it back up, I thought I’d snap some pics and talk you through my spring makeup bag edit. Some are products I’m using up and others are makeup bag favorites. Let’s chat through my current Spring make up.

PRIMER

There’s a few primers in my collection that I go back to time and time again. Most of them I reach for on heavier make up or filming days when I need my looks to be a certain way. But recently, I snagged the Coola Dawn Patrol Classic Makeup Primer*. I’ve been using and loving my Becca primer* for forever but it was time to make the green beauty switch. This primer has SPF and goes on more like a silicone primer. Honestly, I’m obsessed. I spent all of yesterday outside with event level make up for a wedding and after 12 hours, I still had the same look. I’ve gotten into the habit of using it on my eyes as a primer as well. It’s the first primer in a while that has wowed me so much and it has SPF. I’m so excited about this green beauty find!

FOUNDATION

I’ve been super into mixing my foundations lately. There’s probably a few reasons for it. I’ve been fake tanning and that means I’m occasionally between two foundations so I need to create my exact color. But I’m also on a mission to really use up some of my products and make room for new things. I have one or two items I don’t love as much so I’ve been mixing them in with others to try to use them up. The current combo of choice for most days: Beautycounter Tint Skin Foundation and It Cosmetics CC Cream*. I don’t particularly love these guys on their own all the time. However, together they work well and give my skin the glowing look I’ve been into. My spring make up has been all about creating a healthy skin look and these combo sets a great base for everything else I’ve been loving.

 CONCEALER

This is honestly probably the same as my fall makeup bag edit. I’m still obsessed with my Tarte Shape Tape* & Nars Soft Matte Concealer*. I love the Tarte for under my eyes set with my Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder*. And I opt for the Nars concealer on my face. I have my eye on the W3LL People concealer & RMS Uncover in my next round of purchases. For now though, I’m quite content with the current duo. It’s become a pretty consistent combo and it gets the job done. And for me, it’s always a good sign when I love something enough I don’t feel the need to try new things.

BROWS

Thank heavens that Benefit Gimme Brow* is back. I need a new one in my life soon. I’m not someone with big bushy eyebrows. I don’t find I really have to tame my hairs into place. But I do like to use something that makes them look thicker. As with most of my face, I’m into mixing products. I’ve been opting for both pencil and gel to really give my eyebrows shape lately. And both products come from Benefit: Benefit 3D Browtones* & Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil*. I go back and forth between the Benefit & Anastasia pencil. However, with the gimme brow out of stock, I decided to try Browtones instead. Unfortunately, I don’t love it as much. If you want something simple to use, it’s great. But if you’re looking to add fullness, stick with gimme brow. I’m currently finishing this one off because I’m on a mission but I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.

CONTOUR, HIGHLIGHT & BLUSH

For the last few months, I’ve been using the same contour & highlight palette daily: Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow*. It wears all day and gives me skin the glow of color I’ve really been loving. I’ve also been opting to use the bronzer as my eyeshadow most days. My current make up look is more natural bronzed goddess than smokey eyeshadow maiden. So I’ve been reaching for my bronzer in place most days to just give my eyes a dust of color. And again with the running theme of using things up, I’m working on putting a dent in my Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful*. I’ve had this blush for ages and I feel like I’ve barely made a dent. It wears well and is a lovely peach color.

 MASCARA

One day I might be a girl who wears only one mascara. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening any time soon. I want it all when it comes to mascara. I want length & volume. And I want all of it without fake lashes. So I apply a billion coats. I’ve been using Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara* for the last few months and it’s great on the volume front. It’s amazing for adding in fullness. But it just doesn’t quite get my lashes as long as I know they can go. In the spirit of trying more green beauty, I snagged W3LL People Expressionist Mascara*. It’s a fan fave and it great if you’re looking to get length. I don’t love it as much as my YSL but it’s growing on me for sure.

Final Touches

I’ve been setting my make up with the same spray for ages: Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray*. I tried to use the Pixi setting spray and it just wasn’t the same. So until someone gives me a reason to change, this will probably be a make up bag staple. But as far as lip color goes, I’ve been all over the board this month. From mattes to balms, I’ve been using most of my color on my lips since I’ve dialing down the eyes. The current regular of choice is Dior Lip Glow in Coral*. I’ve really been embracing the beach life lately. And I’ve also been embracing a more beach style make up. Lip Glow has been a fave for ages but the coral is new to my makeup bag and adds the perfect amount of glow to my bronzed goddess look.

And that’s everything for my Spring makeup bag. Honestly, my goal currently is to have glowing skin. So my makeup bag is filled with products that help me get that look. But with the hotter months coming up, I might go for even lighter choices. I’d love to know what’s currently in your makeup rotation.
