My Why: What I Want You To Know About Me

Categories Life

Today marks 1 year since the launch of 2nd life of Savee & Savory aka What Savvy Said. A new logo, a new name and so much more went into making everything you see & read these days. But the one thing that hasn’t changed since I started the blog: my why. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I want to do with this platform and in the last few weeks I feel like I have more clarity than ever. So today I wanted to share my why again with you. Whether it’s your first time coming to the blog or you’re a loyal reader, I think it’s important that you know the heart that goes into every post and what I hope the future of WSS looks like.

MISSION STATEMENT

I think it took a while for me to really lock this one down. When I first started blogging, I was following Minimalist Baker, Nutrition Stripped & Oh She Glows. So many incredible women helping others to eat healthier in their every days lives. And I wanted to do the same. But I quickly realized I was never going to be a full on food blogger. I love food and create the occasionally recipe. Unfortunately, it’s not my strongest gift to create new foods all the time.

It took me a really long time to realize that my blog, my content and who I am as a person isn’t quite like anyone else I was following. I wanted so desperately to succeed but I didn’t really know who I was or the why behind why I was doing this. Eventually, I landed on a mission statement and a why. It’s the one that drives all of my posts and pushes me everyday. What Savvy Said is here to empower women to live their happiest & healthiest lives.

SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Healthy and happy can be relative terms depending on who and where you are in life. It doesn’t look the same for all of us. But if I can give you the tools to help you reach your goals, help you learn to love yourself more or just give you a space to feel heard, then I’ve done my job. Empowered women empower women. I am so inspired by each and every one of you who are fighting to live a healthy & happy lifestyle. And I want to do everything I can to help you do it!

HOW DID I DECIDE ON MY WHY?

When I first decided on a name, created the blog and wrote my first post, things were a bit different. Going into this I wanted to build an income that would give me flexibility to travel and spend time with my aging parents. Flash forward to 6 months after that and I was moving home to a town I swore I’d never go back to again.

I know so many people start a blog to make money. It seems easy and like a great option to work from home. And while I’m sure there are easier ways to do it, I can definitely tell you it’s not exactly a cake walk. It was important to me that the reason I was showing up and writing day after day meant something to you and to me. Money has never been a major motivator in my life. Yes, we need it to live. But I’ve never been particularly good at slaving away at something I hated because the money was right.

Helping you. Helping other women. It’s the thing that brings me joy. I want you to know that someone, somewhere in the world thinks you are amazing and you’ve got this. If I could look each of you in the eyes and say it, I would. It makes me want to jump up and down just thinking about it!

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Truthfully, I think this is a question we will both have to answer. I’m constantly inspired by Jenna Kutcher & Rachel Hollis in the ways they build their community. There are so many ideas I have that the timing hasn’t felt quite right or I’m not sure how to execute. But I want to hear from you. What is it you’d like to see on What Savvy Said? What content do you love? What content would you like less of? How can I serve you better?

More than anything, I want to give you the tools you need in your everyday life. And if there’s something you’d love to see, I want to know. Be sure to leave me a comment below or send an email to savannah@whatsavvysaid.com. I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. And I can’t wait to see where the next year takes us. Until next time. Xoxo, Savvy
